Man is presumed drowned

FAIRBANKS -- A man who dove into a pond on a family outing this Fourth of July never
resurfaced and is presumed to have drowned, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers say Delta Junction resident Louis E. Stockwell, 63, was reported missing
at about 6 p.m. Saturday.
Stockwell had been out with his wife and two other family members at the gravel
pit ponds on Spengler Road, near Mile 274 Richardson Highway, troopers said.
He was in the pond swimming when he dove under and never resurfaced.
Troopers say alcohol was involved and there was no sign of foul play.
